Sotong Kang Kung... The Legend...

Last month, i had the opportunity to revisit a long time sinful delicacy which i had not tasted since last year...
It was my grandma's village 120th "Thien Hock" Temple Anniversary... Located in the heart of Sabak Bernam town, the temple boasts of a history and a culture dating back to 1891...

For this auspicious celebration, the temple committee invited various mediums from nearby temples to participate in their prayer march... It was a grand occasion indeed...

Not missing out, were the part time food hawkers whom usually set up stalls outside of the temple walls during these three day long event just to earn some extra cash...

Surprisingly, as it was a temple anniversary, none of the food hawkers were selling vegetarian food items.. hehehe, that shows how much "Taoist" love their meats... Food items ranging from "Chee Cheong Fun", "Lobak", "Fried Koay Tiaw", desserts & and of course the highlight "Sotong Kang Kung"...

Not this one... This is squidworth, wearing a wig....

Not this one too... It doesnt look as scrumptious as the one i have eaten...

The one i have encountered  was not the average day to day dish... It was Sotong kang kung with a sauce so special that it almost resembles "Rojak" - a dish with mixed condiments & bathe over with peanut sauce...

This is it...

Crispy prawn crackers deep fried to perfection, mouth watering aromatic peanut sauce, fresh green crisp water spinach, some pan fried tofu and imported cuttlefish...

See how colourful this dish can be???
Eventually cleaned the whole plate and ordered second helping...

Later, we found out that this dish was featured in one of the local chinese news papers as it was only sold bout 3-4 times a year during temple functions... On a usual day, the boss runs a coffee shop down the street from the temple...
Guess What?!?! This dish is only RM 5 per plate...
